HolaChef online food at bargain prices

In the last few months my family has discovered the joys of ordering food home from online food delivery sites. One such is Holachef.com. Holachef provides menus for breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner. The menus have new listings daily, with the popular dishes and those getting good reviews being repeated later in the week too. You can also order packaged edible snacks under the Flavours section of the site.

Having tried it a couple of times, we can vouch for the good food in terms of most of the main courses, but was not happy with the deserts at all. Starters too were strictly Ok.

2 big tips: Look out for coupon vouchers that you may get at your email on registering at the site to get a discount. Those who order for the first time can also avail of discount voucher codes.

More important: keep an eye out daily for the 'BOGO' offer, namely, buy one get one offer - you can get an entire dish free with one order!! This, though, may depend on the price of the one dish you order.

Note: You can click on the dish and check out the ingredients and level of spice. Be warned, though, that what they term as 'mildly spiced' may be of a higher level of spice than just "mild". They also thoughtfully mention milk/milk products, peanuts, mushrooms, etc if these are in the food so that those having food allergies to these condiments can avoid ordering it.

What we liked
1. Veg Yellow Thai Curry with Chilli Basil Rice, Vegetable Satay and Peanut Sauce
The coconut based curry had a few vegetables in it and had a hint of herbs & spices. 2 packets of oregano and chilli flakes were provided to sprinkle on it. It was accompanied with chili basil rice. On the side was a box of 3 skewers of grilled vegetables - bell papers, corn and chunks of paneer, served with peanut sauce.

(The photo of the grilled vegs. was taken half-way through being eaten, hence you see it in part only!)

The cost: Rs.320/-.

Review: The basil rice was not 'chili', meaning it was not spicy. The curry was mildly spiced and the peanut sauce we found spicy. It was overall delicious and total value for money. You must try it out!

The chef who cooked it up, Chef Arbind Tamang, has created other delectable delights too. On an earlier occasion too we had ordered Thai curry (that time it was green) with rice.

2. Creamy Veg Medley with Garlic Bread and Oven Roasted Potatoes
These are a mix of cooked vegetables, namely bell peppers, zucchini, green peas and baby corn tossed in a mix of cream and butter with mixed herbs and a cheesy sauce. It is accompanied by 2 pieces garlic bread which had a sprinkle of herbs and chilli flakes on it and oven roasted potatoes on the side.

Those long chillies shown at the side of the bread are merely for image purposes - they do not come with the dish you order.

This is the food we got:

The cost: Rs.220/- [ we availed of the one for one free offer so got this dish entirely free!]

Review: Only the garlic bread was mildly spice, not the other items. The potatoes were well roasted with a dash of herbs. The veg medley was lovely, just right in taste.Anybody who is looking for a light meal should definitely try this simple meal.

The chef: Chef Sandeep Harmalkar
